The twenty fourth of January turned out to be just what you
would expect for that day- cold! But not quite cold enough to scare away
some twenty seven members of DVC who would brave any hardship to increase
their knowledge of wheeled vehicles invented long before they were able to
say "MG". Once inside the toasty lobby of the Boyertown Museum of Historic
Vehicles the outside cold was forgotten while greetings and all were being
exchanged and we met our guides. The coolness of the main exhibit hall was
almost overlooked with the great display of ancient and modern vehicles and
so much in between that we were not aware of or only vaguely remembered.
Each vehicle was a lesson in mechanics, social times, and history of
invention - all worthy of another visit in warmer times. All the Club people
who braved the cold and icy roads deserve mention: Walt King and Donna
Bristol, Roy Dougherty, Chuck and Judy Goetz, Patrick Alzamora, Gregory Lake
and Judy Lukis, Liz and Lee Niner, Paul and Evonna Phillips and sons Caleb
and Logan, Tom and Jaimee Rippert, Dave and Gloria Schwab, Dick and Sandy
Suffredini, Bob Tiley, Joe Weiss, Leland Wesner, LeBarre and Eleanor
Williams, Lewis Phillips and Bob Wagner . Gentle People all and Merry
Companions. Its rumored that some of the above preferred the warm lobby.
However the great party that followed at the Schwabs erased all concerns
about temperature. We had a really cool time at the Boyertown Auto Museum. Our gracious host Bob Wagner saw that all that arrived were welcomed inside with no cost for the guided tour. We had enough members for two guides to explain and inform us on all the collection, some of which were very rare indeed. Somy Electric vehicles as well as bicycles were on display. I, unfortunately was too cool to stay for the whole tour and went back to the gift shop to warm my buns. Then off to the wild west to see the Eastwood warehouse and the Schwab Garage (which was not near as cool as the Boyertown collection) . Gloria was off to find lost souls as Dave guided the tour through his house and garage. Both are falling down, but were warm. All (about 30 club members) had a great time conversing but the sad group were confined to the smoking lounge by the riverside. Thanks to all who helped Gloria in the kitchen and Dave get rid of the beer. We'll have to do it again in the spring or summer or when their boiler is repaired at the museum.
